Academic Qualifications

At ROAM Dance School & Creative Arts, we offer qualifications in both GCSE Dance and BTEC Dance (A Level). Our courses are aimed at being taken in addition to school subjects & further education studies. Both of our courses last for a duration of two years.

All of our academic qualifications are taught by Laura who holds a BA (Hons) in Dance and a PGDE in Secondary Performing Arts (Dance). Laura has taught dance/performing arts in Secondary Education, Further Education and Special Educational Needs settings for over 8+ years.

GCSE Dance

Our GCSE Dance course is a two year course held in a twilight setting. The advantages of taking the course in a twilight setting are that students are able to take their exams for this course one year early, giving them the opportunity to focus on their other subjects at school in year 11.

Taking the GCSE Dance course at ROAM will mean that students have a wide range of opportunities to perform and take part in competitions and shows alongside their learning, should they wish to, complementing their learning and providing them with ample opportunities to develop their skills.

All classes are held at ROAM, in an environment where all students are dedicated to their dance studies. Students typically take this course in Year 9 and 10, prior to exams in year 11. However, we will consider taking on students who will be in Year 10 as of September 2024.

BTEC Dance (A Level)

Our BTEC Dance course is a two year course held in a twilight setting. The advantages of taking the course in a twilight setting are that students are able to take their assessments for this course one year early, giving them the opportunity to focus on their other subjects at school/college.

The BTEC course is equivalent to 1 A Level. The course is a predominantly practical based course suitable for those who wish to train in a range of dance styles, and who are keen to perform. The course is suitable for those who wish to pursue other subjects at further education alongside their dance studies.

All classes will be held at ROAM (with sessions also held online on zoom), in an environment where all students are dedicated to their dance studies.

Students typically take this course in their final year of school (Year 11) and complete the course at the end of Year 12 (first year of college/sixth form). However, we also take on students who have just left school and are in their first year of further education (year 12). We will also consider taking on students who are due to start their second year of college/sixth form, however, with this being a two year course, a discussion would be needed to discuss this further.
